CAHS Prevention Coordinators Alicia Richbourg, PSIT, and Ricki Davis, along with Social Service Counselor Rosalyn Davis, CAC, conducted a Narcan (naloxone) training session, Oct. 23, for 55 healthcare professionals and support staff at the West Feliciana Hospital in St. Francisville.
The attendees included a diverse group of professionals, including emergency services workers, specialty clinic staff, pediatric clinic personnel, behavioral health professionals, primary care providers, and team members from the practice of Nnamdi Nwabueze, MD.
Representatives of the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and the Rural Health Clinic (RHC), which covers primary care, pediatric, and behavioral health services, also attended.
The training covered the critical importance of Narcan in reversing opioid overdoses, recognizing overdose symptoms, and administering the medication effectively. Participants engaged in hands-on demonstrations and discussions about best practices in overdose prevention and harm reduction strategies.
The session also emphasized the importance of timely intervention and how various departments within the hospital system can collaborate to support patients at risk of opioid overdose. CAHS staff gave Narcan kits to the attendees to use in response to opioid related emergencies.
