CAHS Program Monitor Tamara Jones, PSIT, and Prevention Coordinator Alicia Richbourg, PSIT, attended the “Strive for Wellness Gold” health fair, held Oct. 1-2 in Gonzales for Shell Geismar’s employees
Jones and Richbourg warned Shell employees that youth are now buying and selling illicit drugs online, and they decoded several emojis being used to represent drug transactions. The pair urged parents to routinely check what their children are texting to help prevent drug use and misuse.
Jones and Richbourg also informed attendees about the dangers of vaping and fentanyl. Several attendees shared personal stories about issues that they’ve seen in families, and they took CAHS information to share with family and friends.
Attendees entered contests, won prizes, and were provided information and resources from several agencies, including CAHS, Williamson Eye Center, Cardiovascular Institute of the South, Ochsner Medical Center, and the Baton Rouge General Medical Center.
The event also featured a vaccine clinic, allergy screenings, blood pressure testing, and free massages. Smoothie King sweetened the event with free smoothies for everyone.
