The CAHS “Recovery Sunday” event visited Greater Philadelphia Baptist Church in Zachary on Nov. 16, sharing information about CAHS’ Faith-Based Toolkit as a vital resource for individuals and families to avoid the dangers of opioids and addiction.
Church member Donna Burks arranged for CAHS Prevention Coordinators Alicia Richbourg, PSIT, and Ricki Davis-Robinson, PSIT, to speak to the congregation about the toolkit and to share practical advice about how to help those are battling addiction and the loved ones who are caring for them.
Richbourg and Davis-Robinson also distributed free kits of naloxone (Narcan), the medication that reverses the deadly effects of overdoses from opioids.
CAHS Producer Tembi Muna also videotaped a testimonial from Burks who celebrated 25 years in recovery this month, which is National Recovery Awareness Month. Burks and some of her family members shared their moving testimonies about Burk’s life before drugs and how treatment helped her transform into the woman she is today.
In her inspirational testimonial, Burks encourages others, “Get help, go to meetings, obtain a sponsor, learn the steps, work the steps, and apply the steps.”
