Capital Area Human Services partnered with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) for its National Drug Take Back Day, held April 27 at the Baton Rouge Police Department headquarters on Airline Highway.
Individuals and families drove through the event to dispose of medications that were unused, expired, or no longer needed.
Prevention Coordinator Dawn Collins provided educational materials from CAHS’ “Be A Hero, Get to Zero” campaign that emphasizes the importance of cleaning medicine cabinets of medications that are expired or no longer needed. Collins also spoke with WBRZ-Channel 2 in an interview posted here.
According to the DEA’s website, Drug Take Back Day reflects DEA’s commitment to Americans’ safety and health, encouraging the public to remove unneeded medications from their homes as a measure of preventing medication misuse and opioid addiction from ever starting.
