Capital Area Human Services participated in the Baton Rouge Sigma Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority’s 4th Annual Redz River Run 5k/10k Race Walk, held March 8 at Mumford Stadium on the campus of Southern University.
Representatives from CAHS’ Prevention Services, Developmental Disabilities Services, Children’s Behavioral Health, Addiction Recovery Services, and the School Based Behavioral Health Program provided information about CAHS’ services, alcohol and substance misuse, opioid awareness, and distributed kits of Narcan, the opioid overdose reversal medication.

The event benefited the Baton Rouge AIDS Society, Southern University Lab School, ExxonMobil YMCA, Ainsley’s Angels of America, and The Butterfly Society. The race included a “Dear Dash,” a brisk 20-yard walk to the race’s starting line, exclusively for participants aged 60 years and older.
After the race, attendees were invited to participate in a yoga cool down and to visit the Community Health and Economic Summit, which featured CareSouth health screenings, and other local small business and healthcare vendors.
