Collins talks about prevention efforts on radio show

February 10, 2023

CAHS Prevention Coordinator Dawn Collins appeared Feb. 9 as a guest on the “Mornings with Brian Haldane” show on Talk 107.3 radio.

Collins appeared in partnership with the East Baton Rouge Parish Schools I CARE program, which also partners with Crime Stoppers. Collins talked about CAHS’ efforts in the area of drug and alcohol prevention.

“Our goal is to keep kids safe through addiction prevention and behavioral health services,” says Collins.

CAHS partners with I CARE to provide help that includes professional development training for the I CARE staff, school nurses, and behavioral support staff. The CAHS Prevention Team also has conducted trainings about opioids, how students hide addictive substances in plain sight, and how to recognize potential overdoses.

A training scheduled for March will focus on emergency medical responses on campuses. Among other things, the CAHS staff will supply overdose-reversal agent Narcan for each school and will train personnel about how to administer Narcan.
