In 2017, nearly 16 million women in the United States and more than one-in-four Louisiana children lived in poverty. Poverty is a risk factor for substance abuse, domestic violence and other problems in our society.
“Trauma has biological, psychological, and social effects that impact women and children negatively. In this issue, we have highlighted resources that provide support to women and children and help them to navigate the challenges that they face daily,” says Capital Area Human Services Interim Executive Director Jan Laughinghouse, PhD, LCSW-BACS.
