CAHS Prevention Coordinators Alicia Richbourg and Ricki Davis attended Southern University’s Health and Wellness Day event, held Aug. 22 at the university’s Smith-Brown Memorial Union Courtyard.
Southern hosted the event to foster healthy, balanced lifestyles for students as they flocked to campus to start the fall semester. Students enjoyed a wide range of activities, resources, and educational opportunities from early morning yoga sessions to interactive workshops on stress management and nutrition.
CAHS’ staff provided information about medication safety, suicide prevention, and the dangers of vaping, fentanyl, and other drugs. The CAHS team also distributed Narcan, the opioid-overdose reversal medication.
Students enjoyed fitness challenges, exploring the benefits of mindfulness through guided meditation, and attending expert-led seminars about mental health awareness, healthy eating habits, and the importance of regular physical activity.
Local health organizations and campus services provided free health screenings, flu shots, healthy snacks, promotional items, and valuable information about maintaining a healthy lifestyles while managing academic pressures.
The highlight of the day was a keynote address from a prominent wellness coach, who inspired the audience with practical tips about integrating wellness into daily life, especially during the busy school year.
“With the positive energy and knowledge gained from this event, we believe the students are better equipped to tackle the challenges ahead,” said Richbourg.
