CAHS’ Prevention Team members participated in the “Just for the Health of It” event, Sept. 21, at Second Baptist Church in Baton Rouge.
East Baton Rouge Parish Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome spoke about the importance of self care and encouraged the attendees to acquaint themselves with all the healthy lifestyle resources available from agencies that were represented, including CAHS, AARP, Pennington Biomedical Research Center, Baton Rouge General Medical Center, LA Healthcare Connections, and Tobacco Free Living.
CAHS Program Monitor Supervisor, Yolanda Yancy, RPP, and Program Monitor, Tamara Jones, PSIT, educated attendees about the dangers of xylazine (a non-opioid sedative), vaping, and binge drinking.
Several of the attendees were excited to learn about the other CAHS services that include addiction recovery and help for developmental disabilities. Many attendees shared personal stories of either needing help or knowing someone in need.
In addition to the resources, attendees enjoyed free massages, signed up for library cards, and had access to free HIV and syphilis testing.
