The Baton Rouge community came together, Aug. 1, at Red Stick Social for the “MyWE (Mayor’s Youth Workforce Experience) Total Teen Takeover” event that focused on mental health, positive expression, and civic involvement among youth.
MyWE is a summer program that connects young people to paid job opportunities, career training, and educational enrichment.
This year, 300 students participated in the program that was hosted by East Baton Rouge Parish Mayor-President Sid Edwards and sponsored by the Baton Rouge Area Chamber, the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office, State Senator Regina Barrow, EmployBR, Entergy, Youth City Lab, and the Big Buddy program.

CAHS School Based Therapist Susie Weeks, PLPC, and Prevention Project Coordinator Ricki Davis Robinson, PSIT, staffed an interactive booth where teens tested their knowledge of medication safety, including dosage awareness, proper storage and disposal, potential interactions, and the importance of taking medications as prescribed.
Attendees also enjoyed CAHS’ “Affirmation Station” where they were encouraged to say positive affirmations to reinforce their self-esteem and boost their mental wellness.
