CAHS’ Prevention Team participated in Ascension Public Schools “Well-Being Night,” Nov. 20, at East Ascension High School in Gonzales.
The event was designed to inform students and families about the importance of making healthy and responsible choices and to empower students to succeed academically, socially, emotionally, and financially.
CAHS Program Monitor Supervisor Yolanda Yancy, RPP, and Program Monitor Tamara Jones, PSIT, educated attendees about the agency’s services and provided information about the dangers of underage drinking, tobacco use, opioids, and fentanyl.
Other organizations and agencies that participated in the event included Families Helping Families of Greater Baton Rouge, Via Link, Prevent Child Abuse Louisiana (PCAL), The Louisiana Campaign for Tobacco-Free Living, and Families in Need of Services (FINS).
Students and families heard impactful stories about the importance of mental health and socio-emotional well-being. Speakers included Jordan Tabor, who started the “Rain Will Bring Flowers Foundation” after losing his teen son to suicide, and Meghan Goldbeck-Chambers, Executive Director of the Louisiana / Mississippi Chapters of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
The event also included breakout sessions about safety and social media, anxiety and depression among youth, and the fundamentals of healthy relationships.
