CAHS Prevention Coordinator Ricki Davis-Robinson, PSIT, and Social Service Counselor Rosalyn Davis, PLPC, CCGC, CAC, provided a training about the effective use of Narcan for about 40 clients and staff members at O’Brien House on Feb. 18.

O’Brien House was established in 1971 to provide recovery services for individuals addicted to alcohol and other drugs. Today, the center offers inpatient, outpatient, and preventative care at its facility on N. 12th St. in Baton Rouge.
The session reviewed the lifesaving aspects of Narcan and provided an opportunity for engaging dialogue about overdose prevention and the various steps of successful recovery.
The CAHS team also shared powerful testimonial videos from individuals who have successfully navigated recovery. Several participants expressed hope and excitement about their own recovery journeys and how they could inspire others to seek help.
To further support the center’s ongoing safety efforts, Davis-Robinson and Davis distributed 36 free kits of Narcan, which reverses the deadly effects of opioid overdoses. O’Brien House staff members shared positive feedback, noting that the training was informative, well-delivered, and highly engaging.
O’Brien House Executive Director Emily Tilley proposed that CAHS host quarterly Narcan trainings for residents as they transition out of the home. The CAHS representatives agreed and said the trainings would provide continuing overdose prevention and lifesaving education for individuals in their recovery journeys.
