It was a chilly day in Plaquemine, Feb. 17, but that didn’t deter Capital Area Human Services (CAHS) Prevention and Wellness Services and its partners from hosting the “Driving Into Recovery” event in Plaquemine at the Waterfront Park Pavilion.
Attendees at the Plaquemine event received food boxes, children’s diapers, along with information about mental and physical health, substance misuse, prevention, and addiction recovery.
The CAHS team also distributed fentanyl testing strips and kits of Narcan, the opioid overdose-reversal medication.
We deeply appreciate the following sponsors who made the event such a success:

- City of Plaquemine
- Coca-Cola Bottling Company
- Healthy Blue
- Priority Care
- WellCare
- Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank
CAHS is in its second round of delivering Driving Into Recovery events to bring substance misuse and recovery education to the agency’s seven-parish region.
The initiative began in December 2021, and events have been held in Baker, Baton Rouge, Donaldsonville, Port Allen, New Roads, St. Francisville, and Clinton.
