CAHS Executive Director Jan Laughinghouse, PhD, LCSW-BACS, LAC, CCS, delivered the keynote address at a special event, held Sept. 18 at the Capital Park Museum in Baton Rouge, to recognize September as Recovery Month.
“Recovery is not a straight line, but it is always possible,” said Dr. Laughinghouse. “If we join voices — medicine with education, providers with peers, and families with policymakers — with those in recovery, then we all become stronger.”
The 2025 Recovery Celebration was sponsored by the Louisiana Department of Health, The Behavioral Group, and Capital Area Human Services. Its theme, “Join the Voices of Recovery: Together We Are Stronger,” highlighted the strength, hope, and unity of individuals, families and communities that are impacted by mental health and substance use recovery.

Radio personality LaTangela Fay of MAX 94.1 emceed the evening, and attendees enjoyed live music, arts, and inspiring stories from those who have triumphed in their recovery journeys.
CAHS’ Prevention and Wellness team, represented by Alicia Richbourg, Ricki Davis-Robinson, and Bridget Lewis, shared resources about behavioral health services for youth, adolescents, and adults, and provided free Narcan, the lifesaving medication that reverses opioid overdoses.
CAHS was also represented by Lindsey Robinson, a participant in the Capital Area Recovery Program (CARP), who recounted his journey through addiction, loss, and renewal.
