CAHS’ Prevention & Wellness Services hosted “Grace for the Struggle: A Faith-Based Conversation on Addiction & Recovery,” Sept. 22, at the East Baton Rouge Parish Library Main Branch on Goodwood Blvd.

The event which generated strong community interest, featured an expert panel and engaging discussions about various aspects of addiction, recovery, behavioral health, faith, and the power of community support.
Faith leaders, behavioral health professionals, individuals with lived experience, families, and community advocates came together to examine issues about substance misuse, addiction, and recovery that are often difficult to address.
Conversations focused on reducing stigma, extending grace rather than judgment, recognizing the realities of substance use disorders, supporting families, and understanding the important role houses of worship and community organizations can play in connecting individuals to treatment, recovery resources, and hope.
The panelists, listed below, offered a unique combination of professional expertise, faith-based perspectives, and lived experiences:
- CAHS Executive Director Jan Laughinghouse, PhD, LCSW-BACS, LAC, CCS
- Iberville Parish Director of Behavioral Health Dr. LaCrystal Wilson-Johnson, LPC-S
- Purpose Church & Restoring Purposes Ministries Pastor Chad Dinkel
- Elevate Church of BR & Church on the Levee Ministries Apostle Keith Richard
