Over the past several weeks, CAHS staff members have conducted Opioid Awareness and Overdose Reversal trainings to first responders throughout the seven-parish region.
Dawn Collins, CAHS Prevention Coordinator, and Rosalyn Davis, CAHS Social Service Counselor, traveled to West Feliciana on March 27 and 29 to train 82 deputies and staff on opioid awareness and overdose reversal.
The law enforcement officials learned about current opioid related trends, the dangers of the stigma of addiction, the science of addiction, and using naloxone to reverse opioid overdoses. They also received 119 Narcan (naloxone) kits.
On April 4 and 6, Collins and Davis trained 131 Ascension Parish sheriff’s deputies and staff and provided 175 Narcan kits and 100 Fentanyl test strips.
On April 18, Collins, fellow Prevention Coordinator Alicia Richbourg, and Social Worker Supervisor Scott Thomas provided training to several Pointe Coupee Parish firefighters and provided them with 25 Narcan kits and several Fentanyl test strips.
