Hallways turned into makeshift hospital wings as students stepped into the role of healthcare professionals during Capitol Elementary’s first Medical Showcase, held March 11 at the school. Students learned about different medical careers as they visited interactive stations that included medical room setups and displays about patient care and mental health in the healthcare industry. CAHS School Based Therapist Mary Hanken, LCSW, provided information to families about the vast array of services available for children and adults at CAHS. She also talked with the students about her career as a licensed social worker, particularly the enjoyment of working in schools and helping students and their families. Capitol Principal Karla Johnson said the event, conducted in partnership with the Baton Rouge General Medical Center, was designed to introduce students to careers in the medical field.
