During the month of June, the CAHS Prevention and Wellness Department conducted six trainings throughout the region about the proper use and administration of Narcan, the medication that reverses the deadly effects of overdoses from opioids.
Four of these trainings were held in partnership with the Area Health Education Center (AHEC) program at
- West Feliciana Hospital (St. Francisville)
- Lane Regional Medical Center (Zachary)
- Our Lady of the Lake Ascension (Gonzales)
- Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center (Baton Rouge)
In addition, CAHS facilitated quarterly Narcan trainings at O’Brien House and at the Capital Area Recovery Program (CARP).
The trainings are part of CAHS’ ongoing outreach to 1) expand overdose prevention education, 2) increase access to life-saving resources, and 3) provide the region with the knowledge and tools needed to respond to opioid-related emergencies.
