To request a free Narcan training or presentation, please call the CAHS Wellness and Prevention Department at 225-663-6231. These trainings reflect CAHS’ continued commitment to prevention, education, community collaboration, and expanding access to life-saving resources.
During the month of September, CAHS staff conducted three Narcan trainings in partnership with the Military Assistance Community Resource Alliance (Sept. 8), the Capital Area Recovery Program (Sept. 16), and the Iberville Parish Behavioral Health Program (Sept. 16).
The sessions provided participants with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to recognize and respond effectively to potential opioid overdoses. Representing CAHS were Social Service Counselor Rosalyn Davis, and Prevention Coordinators Alicia Richbourg, PSIT, and Ricki Davis Robinson (PSIT).
As part of each training, the CAHS team distributed free kits of Narcan and conducted hands-on sessions about the proper administration of the life-saving medication, which can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose. Participants also learned how to identify the signs and symptoms of an overdose, when to administer Narcan, and the appropriate steps to take during an overdose emergency.
