To request a free Narcan training or presentation, please call the CAHS Wellness and Prevention Department at 225-663-6231. These trainings reflect CAHS’ continued commitment to prevention, education, community collaboration, and expanding access to life-saving resources. In 2026, CAHS has distributed nearly 1,000 free kits of Narcan, and has distributed nearly 5,000 kits since the initiative started in 2020.
During October, CAHS staff conducted two Narcan trainings: one at the Capital Area Recovery Program (CARP) on Oct. 7, and the other at Southern University on Oct. 14. The sessions helped attendees recognize and respond effectively to potential opioid overdoses. As part of each training, the CAHS team distributed free kits of Narcan and conducted hands-on sessions about the proper administration of the life-saving medication, which can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose.
