BREC’s Hartley/Vey Park was the site of the 20th Annual Gardere Initiative Back to School Extravaganza, held Aug. 1 for families in the area.
CAHS Program Monitor Supervisor Yolanda Yancy, RPP, and Program Monitor Tamara Jones, PSIT, represented the agency at the event that provided families with free backpacks, school supplies, health screenings, educational resources, food, games, and entertainment.
Yancy and Jones distributed school supplies and provided prevention education about various threats, including opioids, fentanyl, underage drinking, and suicide. The pair also shared information about CAHS’ various services and about the national 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
Other community partners and vendors included the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office, Healthy Blue, and ICARE.
