Members of CAHS’ Prevention Team participated in the Mental Health Matters: Breaking the Silence event, presented Dec. 4 by Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC) at its Mid-City campus.
The community wellness event featured mental health education from an expert panel of practitioners, exercises to improve physical and mental health, and an interactive workshop that connected students to local resources and supports.
The event brought together local agencies such as CAHS, Set Free Indeed, Family Service of Greater Baton Rouge, and the Bridge Center for Hope, to help students and community members learn practical strategies for emotional well-being and empowerment.
CAHS’ Program Monitor Supervisor Yolanda Yancy, RPP, and Program Monitor Tamara Jones, PSIT, provided information about the risks of vaping and marijuana use, along with tips about balancing school and social life, and managing social media in ways that are good for mental health.
The pair also distributed stress management items and kits of Narcan, the lifesaving medication that reverses the effects of overdoses from opioids.
