CAHS representatives participated in the “Bee Healthy 100” Community Health Fair, held April 5, at the F. G. Clark Activity Center on the campus of Southern University in Baton Rouge.

The event was sponsored by the Metropolitan Baton Rouge Chapter of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women and by Southern University’s Ag Center. The fair promoted community access to mental, spiritual, and physical health resources and featured informative speakers, engaging exercise sessions, and a U.S. Department of Agriculture Nutrition Hub.
CAHS Program Monitor Supervisor Yolanda Yancy, RPP, and Program Monitor Tamara Jones, PSIT, visited with attendees about CAHS’ various services, the national 988 Suicide Helpline, and the dangers of fentanyl and underage drinking.
Yancy and Jones also informed parents about how youth are buying and selling illicit drugs online and communicating about drugs via text messages that use emojis to disguise drug transactions.
Other vendors that participated in the event included Ochsner Health, CareSouth, WellCare, Louisiana Healthcare Connections, and the East Baton Rouge Parish Library. Vendors offered a variety of resources, including nutrition education, CPR simulations, self-care management, stress management, free diapers, and free testing for sexually transmitted diseases.
