CAHS Director of Prevention and Wellness Services Bridget Lewis and Prevention Coordinator Dawn Collins represented the agency at the “Tiaras and Toast” Self-Esteem Brunch, held Feb. 24, at Collegiate Baton Rouge.
Lewis and Collins distributed prevention resources and information about suicide prevention and the dangers of vaping, underage drinking, and tobacco use. They also demonstrated the use of naloxone, the opioid overdose reversal medication, and offered naloxone kits to attendees.
The Pink Blossom Alliance hosted Tiaras and Toast, which focused on eliminating stereotypes and embracing one’s self-worth. The theme, “I Am … But I’m Not …” helped attendees acknowledge their own truths while celebrating their differences. Attendees learned that a person’s self-esteem can tie directly into mental health deficiencies, and a sisterhood of support can help in many ways.
The event included interactive activities with guest speakers and a panel discussion about self-love that was led by licensed mental health professionals. Presenters spoke about healing through troubled times and the importance of the girls to have support from others to help overcome trials and tribulations.
